We arrived at the Shangri-La Resort a week earlier, ready to have a good time and to celebrate Rita and Jamie’s wedding. The Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort is situated across the causeway from mainland Fiji and it is a luxurious resort on the private Yanuca Island.

On arrival the warm Fijian welcome makes you slip into a timeless Pacific island haven. The group was composed by family of both Rita and Jamie and friends. Soon we merged into a single entity focused on having a good time.

The pre-dinner drinks at Bilo Bar, the Pan Asian dinners at Takali Terrace restaurant and dancing to live music at the Black Marlin Bar provided entertainment to all regardless the age and tastes. The alluring Pacific ocean never leaves your sight and set a really Pacific Island’s atmosphere.

On the first night we were entertained by a Fijian Tribal Dance troupe and fire dancers. Another highlight of our Warm-Up period was a Karaoke night at the Bilo Bar where our “tragic” singers had the opportunity to live their dreams of grandeur.

We spent some magic time at the beach and at the many swimming pools around the resort. In the evenings some beautiful sunsets of red and purple hues closed the days. Long hours were spent snorkelling and enjoying the coral reef and its colourful marine life.

It was great to catch up with our Old Nauruan Friends but we missed greatly Bill and Marion that were like grandparents to our daughters.

After six days of such good fun we were all ready for the serious part of the event: the wedding ceremony.
